Love is a choice.
I love you. That phrase has eight letters and three little words. Yet this one little phrase carries such a huge meaning with it. The problem I'm seeing today, is that people just throw this meaning around like it is common, and not special, as is intended.
Love. One simple word, yet it is expressed in so many different ways. But did y'all know, that love is in fact a choice? Every day, you wake up and choose to love the people you're with. You choose to love your parents, your friends, your significant other. If it's one thing I'm learning in this season of life, it's learning how to love others and be loved on in return. Relationships are hard. People leave....but what happens if we choose to stay? Choose to love each other through the difficult times? That's when I look to Jesus and ask the cliche question "what would Jesus do"? The answer is clear, He stays. Stays through the mess, and that's what makes the sweet times so sweet! He chose to show us love in the ultimate way, by dying on the cross for us. He CHOSE to love us this way. What a wild and crazy love! Sure, we would say we would die for our loved ones, but He actually did it, and not only that, but did it for ones who didn't even love him back!
So, this past Friday morning, I was driving to work. I was behind a woman going 25-30 in the 40mph zone. I went to go into the right lane, and she swerved in front of me, no blinker or anything...so I looked and went back into the left lane, and she swerved in front of me AGAIN. She immediately decides to go into the right lane, and we pull up to the red light next to each other. She points to the back of her car as I look over, so I think uh-oh..maybe something is wrong with her brakes or something. Me being the person I am, (and always having car troubles with my old car) I roll down my window. She yells (and yes, she is about the age of my mother) and asks me ever so not nicely if I was trying to "get into the back of her (bleeping) trunk?!". I was stunned...but I kept my cool, waved a rolled up my window. After all, I was taught that if you had nothing nice to say, then to say nothing at all. We get up to the next red light, and I kid you not, I get the dirtiest look I've gotten - pretty much ever. So once again I waved, and go along my way.
Then it hit me. I just almost missed learning a huge lesson. Even on my worst day, when I'm in my worst mood, when things don't go my way: Jesus loves me. WHAT A THOUGHT HERE PEOPLE. Today as I was reading the Psalms, I came over this gem from Psalm 94: When I thought, "My foot slips," your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. Like dang. How amazing is that. Even on my worst days, even when I "slip up" his steadfast (also unconditional and everlasting) love holds me up. The joy in this truth is enough to get my through every moment of every day. I am dearly loved. YOU are loved so hard, it's unfathomable.
Just wanted to let y'all know that sweet truth today.
